Key takeaways
Stripe Revenue Recognition is a Stripe product that turns billing and payment data into accrual accounting reports. Many SaaS companies that bill in Stripe keep Xero or QuickBooks Online as their general ledger, so the practical question is how recognized revenue and deferred revenue get from Stripe into the ledger each month, and who reviews it before it lands. This page sets out what Stripe publishes about its product, when it fits, and which alternatives publish support for Xero or QuickBooks Online. ScaleXP publishes this comparison. Competitor details come from each vendor's own website and were checked on October 15, 2026.
Stripe describes the product this way: "Stripe Revenue Recognition turns complex accrual accounting calculations into automated reports." It applies treatments "in line with IFRS 15 and ASC 606 standards directly from the Stripe Dashboard."
Stripe's pricing page describes the export as: "Export revenue recognition reports and financial statements using CSV or API." Reports download as CSV from the Dashboard, or through six report types in the Reporting API, which Stripe marks as beta: "Because this feature is in beta, the data fields might change." Stripe also offers Sigma and Data Pipeline for syncing to a data warehouse.
The Stripe Revenue Recognition pages checked do not name Xero, and they do not document a direct journal sync to Xero or QuickBooks Online. In practice, that leaves a finance step each month: export the debit and credit summary, mapped to your general ledger codes, and record the journal in the ledger, by hand or with another tool.
ScaleXP connects to Stripe, Xero and QuickBooks Online. Finalized Stripe invoices and credit notes are created in Xero or QuickBooks, or kept in ScaleXP only, with account-level totals going to the ledger. ScaleXP then reads the invoices and prepares deferred revenue and accrued revenue journals. You review the suggested journal and post it: in Xero it arrives as a draft journal that you approve in Xero; in QuickBooks it posts directly when you click Post. See revenue recognition in ScaleXP, Stripe and Xero and Stripe and QuickBooks.
Strengths: invoices from Stripe and invoices raised directly in Xero or QuickBooks go through the same revenue schedules; 30+ SaaS metrics; consolidation of up to 50 entities; rated 5.0 on the Xero App Store (75+ reviews); plans from $125/month; a 7-day free trial on your own Xero or QuickBooks Online data, with no card.
Limits: the Stripe integration creates invoice documents only. Stripe payments, payouts and fees are not synced, so cash is reconciled through your bank feed. Only invoices finalized after the connection are imported; earlier history needs a data load from ScaleXP support. Refunds are picked up only when a credit note is issued in Stripe. Stripe metadata maps to tracking categories in Xero only. ScaleXP does not connect to Sage or NetSuite, and its revenue recognition journals are documented for Xero and QuickBooks, not Zoho Books.
Ordway describes itself as "Subscription Billing & Revenue Automation Software for SaaS" and says its revenue recognition "supports GAAP accounting under the ASC 606 and IFRS 15 standards." For Xero it says it can "Publish journal entries based upon recent billing, revenue recognition, accounts receivable, and collections activity." For QuickBooks Online it publishes journal entries "for invoices, credits, payments, refunds, and revenue schedules."
Strengths: published Xero and QuickBooks Online journal support; contracts from Salesforce (Sales Cloud and CPQ) and HubSpot; KPI reporting on MRR, ARR, net dollar retention, bookings, churn and renewals.
Limits to weigh: Ordway lists Stripe under payments, as a gateway for collecting card and ACH payments, so the model is Ordway billing rather than revenue recognition on top of Stripe Billing. Pricing is not published (the route is "Get a demo").
Chargebee sells RevRec separately from its billing plans. RevRec Performance is "available only to Chargebee Billing customers". RevRec Enterprise, "For finance teams with multiple source systems, complex billing scenarios, and global scale", lists Stripe, Salesforce, HubSpot, Xero and QuickBooks Online among its sources. Chargebee's RevRec Premium documentation lists Xero and QuickBooks Online as ledgers and says it can "pull billing and payment data, generate compliant journal entries, and automatically post them".
Strengths: Stripe as a billing source together with Xero or QuickBooks Online, on the Enterprise plan.
Limits to weigh: Stripe data needs the Enterprise plan, not Performance. Pricing is by quote for both plans, and no RevRec free trial is published.
Maxio is a billing and revenue platform: "Bill any pricing model, recognize revenue as it's earned". Its documentation says Advanced Revenue Summary GL Sync "supports six general ledgers", including QuickBooks Online and Xero. For Xero, Maxio publishes "Automatic journal entries from Maxio transactions to Xero accounts"; for QuickBooks, "Maxio generates a consolidated journal entry that is then recorded in QuickBooks' General Ledger."
Strengths: billing and revenue recognition in one system, with published Xero and QuickBooks Online journal support; Salesforce, HubSpot and Pipedrive listed as CRM integrations; published pricing for the Grow plan.
Limits to weigh: Maxio lists Stripe as a payment gateway, so moving to Maxio means moving billing to Maxio. Grow is $599/month for up to $100k in monthly billings, and Scale is by quote; "Our default agreements are paid annually". No free trial of Maxio itself is published.

Stripe Revenue Recognition fits companies whose revenue lives almost entirely in Stripe and who are content to carry Stripe's reports into Xero or QuickBooks themselves. If revenue is invoiced in more than one place, or you want reviewed journals in the ledger each month, compare tools by data source, ledger connection and billing model. ScaleXP keeps Stripe and the ledger as they are. Ordway and Maxio replace the billing system. Chargebee RevRec Enterprise reads Stripe alongside other sources.
Stripe's Revenue Recognition product, pricing and documentation pages do not name Xero, as checked on October 15, 2026. Stripe documents exporting reports and financial statements as CSV or through its Reporting API, with transactions mapped to your own general ledger accounts. Recording the result in Xero is therefore a separate step, done by hand or with another tool.
A direct QuickBooks Online journal sync is not documented on the Stripe Revenue Recognition pages checked. Stripe's export route is "CSV or API", and its debit and credit reports can include the general ledger codes you map. Tools that do publish QuickBooks Online journal support include ScaleXP, Ordway, Chargebee RevRec and Maxio.
Stripe charges a monthly fee that depends on payment volume, plus 0.25% of additional volume on the monthly plan or 0.2% on annual plans. New users get a 30-day free trial, and Stripe offers custom pricing for high payment volumes. Check the amount for your currency on Stripe's pricing page, because the figures shown depend on your region.
Yes, in several ways. Stripe Revenue Recognition accepts a CSV "General import" of transactions processed outside Stripe, with a service period, amount and currency for each. ScaleXP reads invoices already in Xero or QuickBooks Online alongside Stripe invoices. Billing platforms such as Ordway and Maxio expect invoices to be raised in their own billing system.
Yes, if the tool reads Stripe data. Chargebee RevRec Enterprise lists Stripe as a billing source, and ScaleXP syncs finalized Stripe invoices and credit notes. Ordway and Maxio list Stripe as a payment gateway, which means billing moves into their platforms. Check whether historical Stripe invoices can be loaded, and how, before you switch.
Stripe Revenue Recognition, Ordway, Maxio and Chargebee RevRec all reference ASC 606 or IFRS 15, or both, on their own websites. A standard is a framework rather than a feature. Test each tool against your own contracts, such as annual prepayments, mid-term upgrades and credit notes, during a trial or demo.
