Fathom alternatives for Xero, QuickBooks and multi-entity reporting

Compare Fathom with ScaleXP and Joiin for Xero and QuickBooks reporting and multi-entity consolidation: entity limits, ledgers, pricing and trials.

Key takeaways

  • Fathom offers reporting, KPI analysis, three-way cash flow forecasts and consolidation, and connects to Xero, QuickBooks Online and Desktop, MYOB, Sage Accounting, FreeAgent, Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Fathom publishes two entity limits: up to 300 entities in a consolidated group, and multi-currency consolidations of up to 50 entities.
  • Fathom states that it "does not natively support partial ownerships or minority interests"; Joiin publishes percentage ownership, and ScaleXP handles NCI through a consolidation adjustment entity.
  • ScaleXP adds SaaS metrics and CRM data to Xero, QuickBooks Online and Zoho Books consolidation; Joiin adds Stripe MRR and churn on its Pro and Max plans.

Fathom is a reporting, analysis and forecasting tool used by accountants, advisors, small and medium businesses, and groups. Teams usually look at alternatives when one of three things changes: the group outgrows a consolidation limit, ownership becomes more complex, or the board wants SaaS and CRM metrics next to the group accounts. This page sets out what Fathom publishes, who it suits, and how ScaleXP and Joiin compare. ScaleXP publishes this comparison. Competitor details come from each vendor's own website and were checked on October 15, 2026.

What Fathom does

Fathom's homepage headline is "All-in-one reporting, analysis & forecasting", and the site says it is "Powering insights for 110,000+ businesses worldwide". Its published features include:

  • Analysis and KPIs: financial analysis, KPI tracking, and custom and non-financial KPIs.
  • Management reporting: custom reports that combine commentary, charts, tables and financial statements, with scheduled delivery.
  • Forecasting: "Three-way cash flow forecasts" covering the P&L, balance sheet and cash flow, with scenarios.
  • Consolidation: "Apply inter-company eliminations to see the true business position", with the option to "override our default historical exchange rates with your own custom exchange rates."
  • Integrations: Xero, QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, MYOB, Sage Accounting, FreeAgent, Access Financials UK, Excel and Google Sheets.

Fathom's entity limits

Fathom's consolidation page answers two questions with two figures: "Fathom can consolidate up to 300 entities in a single consolidated group" and "Fathom supports multi-currency consolidations of up to 50 entities." Its pricing page describes consolidated reporting "for up to 300 entities, across systems and currencies", without the 50-entity multi-currency figure. If your group reports in more than one currency, confirm with Fathom which limit applies.

Fathom pricing

Fathom prices by the number of companies connected. Its pricing page shows Pro at $450/month with 25 companies included, plus $17 per extra company, and quotes Enterprise for more than 50 companies. "Multi-currency consolidations with eliminations" is listed under Pro. Consolidated groups "are free of charge and there is no limit on how many consolidated groups you can create." Fathom offers a 14-day free trial and describes itself as "a monthly pay as you go service with no contracts."

Who Fathom suits

  • Accountants, bookkeepers and advisors who report for many client companies, a group Fathom names directly.
  • Businesses on ledgers outside Xero and QuickBooks Online, such as MYOB, FreeAgent or Sage Accounting.
  • Franchises and groups that want reporting, three-way forecasting and consolidation in one tool, on a monthly plan with no contract.
  • Groups whose structure has no partial ownership or minority interests, since Fathom states it "does not natively support partial ownerships or minority interests."

Fathom alternatives

ScaleXP

ScaleXP is finance automation and reporting software for finance teams on Xero, QuickBooks Online and Zoho Books. For groups, it consolidates up to 50 entities into a group P&L, balance sheet and cash flow. It converts subsidiary results into the parent currency at month end, and applies eliminations to the intercompany accounts you map. Entities without a supported ledger can be added through the Trial Balance (Google Sheets) integration. HubSpot, Salesforce or Pipedrive connects at the parent for group-wide metrics, and consolidated reports feed board packs. See financial consolidation software and smart reporting.

Strengths: 30+ SaaS metrics, such as MRR and churn, consolidated at the parent alongside the group accounts; revenue and month-end journals for Xero and QuickBooks; rated 5.0 on the Xero App Store (75+ reviews), a 2023 Xero Staff Pick and a 2025 Xero Featured App; plans from $125/month; a 7-day free trial on your own Xero or QuickBooks Online data, with no card.

Limits: ScaleXP connects to Xero, QuickBooks Online and Zoho Books only. It does not connect to Sage, MYOB, FreeAgent or QuickBooks Desktop, so those entities come in as trial balances. Non-controlling interest is handled by adding a consolidation adjustment entity, not by setting ownership percentages. The 50-entity ceiling is lower than Fathom's published group limit.

Joiin

Joiin is a consolidation and reporting tool that says it supports "businesses managing multiple entities, from just two to an unlimited number." It lists Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage, FreeAgent, Zoho Books, Pennylane, Puzzle, Fortnox and spreadsheets as integrations. Its intercompany page says you can "Assign a percentage ownership to each of your Xero, QuickBooks or Sage entities" and "Consolidate partially-owned subsidiaries".

Strengths: COA mapping and eliminations on every plan; percentage ownership; "Unlimited users, reports and clients"; Stripe data for "billed MRR, run-rate MRR and customer churn" on the Pro and Max plans; a 14-day free trial with no card.

Limits to weigh: forecasting and Stripe data are not on the Core plan, and "Advanced FX with your own rates" is on the Max plan only. Joiin names no CRM integration; CRM and marketing tools connect through its API or Zapier. Its pricing page lists MYOB, while its integrations page says "MYOB support is on the way". Pricing is set "By the number of companies you consolidate".

How to choose

  • Count entities and currencies. Under 50 entities, all three fit on count alone. Above 50, check Fathom's multi-currency figure and Joiin's plans.
  • Check every entity's ledger. MYOB, QuickBooks Desktop or FreeAgent entities point to Fathom or Joiin. Zoho Books entities point to ScaleXP or Joiin.
  • Map your ownership structure. If you have partially owned subsidiaries, look at how each tool records ownership: as a setting (Joiin), as an adjustment entity (ScaleXP), or outside the tool (Fathom, by its own statement).
  • Decide what the board pack must show. If it needs ARR, MRR, churn or pipeline beside the consolidated P&L, compare SaaS metric depth and CRM sources. If it needs three-way cash flow forecasts, Fathom publishes them.
  • Who uses it? Advisors reporting for many clients and in-house finance teams running one group weigh price per company very differently.
  • Trial on real data. All three publish free trials. Load one month-end and check the eliminations and FX against your own consolidation.

Summary

Fathom covers a broad set of ledgers, three-way forecasting and large consolidated groups, with two published entity limits that multi-currency groups should confirm. Joiin publishes percentage ownership and a wide ledger list. ScaleXP is narrower on ledgers (Xero, QuickBooks Online and Zoho Books), and adds SaaS metrics, CRM data and month-end journals to group reporting. Choose by entity count, ledgers, ownership structure and what the board pack has to show.

Frequently asked questions

How many entities can Fathom consolidate?

Fathom publishes two figures. Its consolidation page says it can consolidate "up to 300 entities in a single consolidated group" and that it "supports multi-currency consolidations of up to 50 entities." Its pricing page mentions 300 entities "across systems and currencies". Groups that report in several currencies should confirm the applicable limit with Fathom before committing.

Does Fathom handle minority interests?

Fathom's consolidation FAQ states that it "does not natively support partial ownerships or minority interests." Joiin publishes percentage ownership for Xero, QuickBooks and Sage entities. ScaleXP records non-controlling interest through a consolidation adjustment entity, either a Trial Balance (Google Sheets) entity or a separate ledger entity, rather than an ownership setting.

Which Fathom alternatives work with Zoho Books?

Fathom's integrations page does not list Zoho Books. Joiin lists Zoho Books among its accounting integrations. ScaleXP consolidates Zoho Books organizations alongside Xero and QuickBooks Online entities, and Zoho Books reporting tags can be added to reports.

Can Fathom show SaaS metrics such as MRR and churn?

Fathom publishes custom and non-financial KPIs, but its pricing, consolidation, integrations and home pages do not name MRR, ARR or churn. Joiin offers billed MRR, run-rate MRR and churn from Stripe on its Pro and Max plans. ScaleXP includes 30+ SaaS metrics and consolidates MRR and churn at the parent.

How is Fathom priced compared with the alternatives?

Fathom prices by the number of companies connected, for example Pro at $450/month with 25 companies, plus $17 per extra company, with free consolidated groups and no contract. Joiin prices by the number of companies consolidated, across three plans. ScaleXP plans start at $125/month. Fathom and Joiin offer 14-day trials; ScaleXP offers 7 days on your own Xero or QuickBooks Online data.

Is Fathom built for accountants or for in-house finance teams?

Both, by its own description. Fathom names accountants and bookkeepers, business advisors, small and medium businesses, and franchises and groups. Joiin's plans include unlimited clients, which suits advisors too. ScaleXP is aimed at in-house finance teams, particularly SaaS and multi-entity groups on Xero, QuickBooks Online or Zoho Books.
